Background of the Study
As universities increasingly adopt digital platforms for teaching, research, and administration, the need for secure data transmission has become paramount. Modibbo Adama University, Yola, located in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, faces the challenge of ensuring that sensitive university data, such as research findings, student records, and administrative information, is transmitted securely across its network.

Traditional cryptographic methods, while effective, are vulnerable to advances in computing power, especially with the advent of quantum computing. Quantum cryptography, which leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, offers a promising solution for achieving unbreakable security in data transmission. Quantum key distribution (QKD) and other quantum encryption techniques can offer higher levels of security than classical cryptographic methods, making it an ideal solution for universities that require robust data protection.

Statement of the Problem
The growing concerns around the security of sensitive data in universities, particularly with the increasing potential of quantum computing to break classical encryption methods, pose a significant challenge. Modibbo Adama University needs to explore cutting-edge encryption technologies such as quantum cryptography to ensure the security and confidentiality of data transmitted within its network.

Objectives of the Study

1. To investigate the potential of quantum cryptography for securing university data transmission at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.

2. To compare the effectiveness of quantum cryptography with traditional cryptographic methods in securing university data transmission.

3. To recommend practical approaches for implementing quantum cryptography-based solutions for secure data transmission at Modibbo Adama University.

Research Questions

1. How effective is quantum cryptography in securing data transmission at Modibbo Adama University, Yola?

2. How does quantum cryptography compare to traditional encryption methods in terms of security and efficiency?

3. What challenges would Modibbo Adama University face in adopting quantum cryptography for data security?

Research Hypotheses

1. Quantum cryptography will provide superior security for data transmission compared to traditional cryptographic methods at Modibbo Adama University.

2. The adoption of quantum cryptography will significantly enhance the university's data security infrastructure.

3. The implementation of quantum cryptography will face significant technological and logistical challenges at Modibbo Adama University.

Significance of the Study
This research will provide insights into the application of quantum cryptography for securing sensitive data in academic institutions. The findings will help Modibbo Adama University enhance its data security infrastructure, ensuring that research, student, and administrative data remain protected from emerging cybersecurity threats.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the investigation and comparison of quantum cryptography techniques for securing data transmission at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, located in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State. The study will not cover other university campuses or focus on areas outside of data transmission security.

Definitions of Terms

• Quantum Cryptography: A method of secure communication that uses quantum mechanics to protect data by ensuring that any eavesdropping attempts alter the transmission and can be detected.

• Data Transmission: The process of sending data from one computer or network device to another across a network.

• Quantum Key Distribution (QKD): A technique in quantum cryptography that allows two parties to securely share a secret key used for encryption.

• Encryption: The process of converting information into a code to prevent unauthorized access.
